Title: Colloidal Hybrid Quantum Structures: Synthesis, Assembly and Applications from the Bottom-Up

Abstract:

Nanoscience & Nanotechnology offers the promise of producing revolutionary advances in areas ranging from fundamental science to emerging technological applications. In this presentation, a few recent advances from my research group will be presented. I will start from materials standpoint and show how to achieve precise control of nanostructures with desired quantum confined property and functionality based on the bottom-up paradigm of nanoscience, including control of defects, chirality and heterostructures. These well-defined colloidal quantum structures can further act as functional building blocks for large scale assembly with new assembly mechanisms as well as new nanoscale platforms for fundamental studies, thus allowing fine tailoring of nanoscale chemical and physical properties with novel technology concepts and applications. If time allows, a few examples centering on the emerging nanoscale light-matter interactions will be further presented.
