Energy Innovation Video Contest

Focus 2021: How can energy innovation solve societal issues?

In celebration of Earth Day 2021, University System of Maryland students (undergraduate and graduate) have the opportunity to enter a video contest.

Guidelines for the Video Competition

The Maryland Energy Innovation Institute (MEI2 ) develops innovative clean energy technology products and services to solve local and global energy problems, thereby improving the lives of millions across the state of Maryland. This video competition seeks to engage students across the state system in this mission by encouraging them to consider potential solutions utilizing clean energy technology, energy efficiency, energy storage, emission reduction, job production and other multi-disciplinary innovative approaches towards longterm sustainability. Teamwork and interdisciplinary work are encouraged. Eligibility The video competition is open to individual and teams of current USM students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Questions to Answer in your Videos

Each video must answer the following questions in a 3-5minute presentation:

1. Target: What energy innovation can/might solve societal issues?

2. Method: Is there a specific issue to society? Describe the technology/method that you would use to approach long-term sustainability.

3. Local Impact: Based on your best estimates, what would be the cost of implementing your solution and the value of improving the resiliency and sustainability in your neighborhood or on campus?

4. Broader Impact: What is the lasting impact not only for the university campus, but also for our nation and the world?

Submission: Post your video on YouTube and mark it as Unlisted. Submit the link for the video and the name(s), email(s), year(s), and major(s) of the video's creator(s) to csteph5@umd.edu by midnight April 18th, 2021.

Selection: A committee of academic, research, and industry leaders will select the winning videos, based, in large part, on their success in answering the questions listed above.

Prizes

• 4 prizes of $1500 per prize will be awarded to the top videos.
